“Wilder Than Wild” Film Screening and Discussion

Audubon Canyon Ranch Event Calendar

“Wilder Than Wild” Film Screening and Discussion

Oct 8 2018 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Sebastiani Theatre

Sonoma Ecology Center, in partnership with Transition Sonoma Valley and Sebastiani Theatre Foundation, is proud to sponsor this screening of “Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future” at the Sebastiani Theatre in Sonoma Plaza. Please join us as ACR Prescribed Fire Specialist Jared Childress will be a panelist for the discussion following the film.

“Wilder Than Wild” is a one-hour documentary film by Kevin White addressing how fire suppression and climate change have exposed our forests and communities to large, high-severity wildfires. The film screens on Oct. 8 – exactly one year after wildfires ignited around the North Bay.

The film starts at 7 p.m., with light refreshments and wine served at 6 p.m. A panel discussion following the film also includes Supervisor Susan Gorin, soundscape naturalist and Sonoma Ecology Center board member Bernie Kraus (both of whom lost their homes a year ago), Sonoma Ecology Center research biologist Caitlin Cornwall, and film producer Steven Most. The scheduled moderator is Doug McConnell of OpenRoad.

Giacomini Wetland Restoration Project - 10th Anniversary Celebration

Oct 27 2018 - 3:15pm to 3:30pm
Red Barn Classroom, Point Reyes

Please join us as ACR Avian Ecologist Scott Jennings gives a short talk on shorebird responses to the Giacomini wetland restoration as part of the afternoon science symposium of the 10-year anniversary celebration of the creation of the Giacomini Wetlands in Point Reyes. Click here for more information on all of the day's events.

Scott Jennings, Avian Ecologist at Cypress Grove Research Center, joined ACR in January 2016 to focus on regional heron and egret populations including field studies, data analysis, technical reporting and conservation planning. After undergraduate studies in vertebrate ecology, restoration ecology, and conservation biology at UC Santa Cruz, Scott worked for many years as a field biologist and Avian Ecologist at PRBO (now Point Blue Conservation Science) where he contributed to a range of projects on songbirds and northern spotted owls. Scott’s graduate research for his MS degree at Oregon State University addressed the relationships between growth and survival of Adélie penguin chicks relative to the type and amount of food provisioned by their parents. Over the last 11 years, Scott has conducted several field studies in the coastal lagoons and hills of Marin County.
