Promoting a conservation ethic in people of all ages is central to our mission of Conservation in Action. Audubon Canyon Ranch offers exploration and learning opportunities for nature enthusiasts of all ages on three of its preserves: the Martin Griffin Preserve, the Bouverie Preserve and the Modini Mayacamas Preserves.

Join us on the preserves to explore seasonal changes, observe nesting birds and migrating newts, learn about native peoples' use of the land, hike past wildflower meadows and through redwood groves. Visitation is limited on all three preserves in order to ensure that human impact is kept in balance with land and habitat preservation goals.

Fire: We Better Learn How to Live With It

Audubon Canyon Ranch Event Calendar

Fire: We Better Learn How to Live With It

Apr 22 2019 - 1:00pm to 1:30pm
Healdsburg Golf Club at Tayman Park

Fire is the new normal for California. While there is no guaranteed way to completely avoid future fires, there are many things we can do to mitigate its impact. Come to the Healsburg Rotary Club's meeting to hear from ACR Prescribed Fire Specialist Jared Childress about science-based approaches to how we can learn to live with fire rather than suffer catastrophic losses from it.

Click here for directions to the meeting, which will be held at Healdsburg Golf Club at Tayman Park, 927 S Fitch Mountain Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448.

Jared Childress, a prescribed fire specialist for Audubon Canyon Ranch’s (ACR) Fire Forward program, identifies and assesses units for prescribed fire or other vegetation management treatments on ACR lands and on the lands of its partner agencies and land owners/managers. Childress holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from Evergreen State College, and a Wildland Firefighter II certificate, and has participated in a Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX), and trained as a Wilderness First Responder. Childress’s commitment to the whole ecosystem has focused on community stewardship and education, most recently as the community wildfire organizer for the East Bay community of Canyon and as the director of education and watershed restoration at Spaulding Marine Center.
