Avian-inspired bluegrass album benefits Audubon Canyon Ranch
It was the birds that inspired internationally-known folk musician Laurie Lewis to produce Birdsong, her album that is a collection of songs about birds. As a labor of love and with a mission in mind, Laurie arranged that the profits from the sale of the cd are donated to Audubon Canyon Ranch. Thus, cd sales continue to benefit the programs and preserves of Audubon Canyon Ranch.
"I love birds and have an affinity for songs about birds," Laurie says. "I see this cd as a way to give something back to my muses as well as to honor the work of Audubon Canyon Ranch, an organization I greatly admire."
A Bay Area native and Berkeley resident, Laurie has, through her many band and solo outings, become a key figure in bluegrass, traditional, country and folk music circles. Since her early days as a founding member of the Good Old Persons and the Grant Street String Band, Laurie's songwriting, fiddling and crystal clear singing have brought her national recognition and numerous awards. She was twice voted the International Bluegrass Music Association's "Female Vocalist of the Year" and has won a Grammy for her participation in True Life Blues: The songs of Bill Monroe. Laurie's, Love Chooses You, was included on country star, Kathy Mattea's Willow in the Wind CD.
